Slip Stitch Crochet Hooks,
Regular Crochet Hooks &
Tunisian Crochet Hooks

Whatever can be looped around a hook -- wire, string, licorice, fishing line, spaghetti -- has been crocheted and there's a crochet hook that is best suited for the job.

I like to design lighter, lacier Tunisian crochet patterns, and Tunisian crochet hooks larger than size I/US9/5.5mm are essential. Many crocheters are unable to find these Tunisian hooks locally so I offer them here. You can’t work some of my patterns without them.

Crocheters have strong preferences about their crochet hook shapes and materials. For slip stitch crochet (and single crochet variations using the lower third loops) I can crochet faster if I use a crochet hook with a pointy head shape. If you prefer a more pointed crochet hook for certain stitches or yarns, you’ll like some of the crochet hooks I’ve found.

I handpick each crochet hook brand available on my site and I explain why in the description of each item. This is an exciting time to be a crocheter: every year I see new crochet hook brands at the yarn industry trade shows, so some may be new to you! I’m starting out my DesigningVashti crochet hook collection slowly, so only a few essential hooks are available for now. As this collection grows, my goals in choosing future crochet hooks to offer are:

1) No more missing sizes! No more missing Tunisian crochet hooks!

2) To offer hooks made of materials from all over the world; for example, silky bamboo, dense ebony wood, and aluminum with different finishes.

3) A full range of prices and gift sets.

Crochet hooks are so central to a crocheter's experience that many of us have HAS: "Hook Acquisition Syndrome" (the urge to collect crochet hooks). Of course, that's just a joke, but we are always on the lookout for the newest hook features.

About 10 years ago I discovered the new furry and highly textured yarns. While swatching with them I learned that different crochet hook shapes and surfaces can help with crocheting textured yarns. Sometimes I preferred Susan Bates crochet hooks, other times bamboo and other wood crochet hooks.

My mother taught me to crochet with Boye crochet hooks, and I still have some of Mom’s crochet hooks from the 1970’s. Just because a hook is older doesn't mean it isn't still useful and just right for a particular task.
